Teacher Training
Teacher Training – Shinpiden
Shinpiden is the teacher-training path within the traditional Reiki system. It is intended for those who feel a deep commitment not only to practising Reiki, but also to passing on the teachings with care, accuracy, and respect for the tradition.
Teacher training in Jikiden Reiki® follows a clear and well-defined structure, which exists to preserve the quality and integrity of the teaching as it is passed from one generation to the next.
What Is Shinpiden?
Shinpiden (神秘傳) refers to the teacher-training stage of the traditional Japanese Reiki system.
Within Shinpiden, there are two distinct levels:
Shihankaku – Assistant Teacher
Shihan – Teacher
Each level carries different responsibilities and is taught in accordance with the guidelines of the Jikiden Reiki Institute.
Shihankaku – Assistant Teacher Training
Shihankaku is the first step on the teacher-training path. It is suitable for those who feel ready to begin supporting others in learning Reiki and who wish to teach Shoden (Level 1) within the Jikiden Reiki tradition.
As a Dai-Shihan (senior teacher), I offer Shihankaku training to students who meet the required criteria and who feel genuinely committed to teaching Reiki responsibly and with integrity.
Shihankaku training allows you to:
Teach Shoden level training
Offer Reijukai and other Jikiden Reiki-accredited meetings
Support Jikiden Reiki practitioners in their ongoing practice
Deepen your understanding of Reiki through teaching
Develop confidence, clarity, and responsibility as a teacher
Readiness & Requirements for Shihankaku
Readiness for Shihankaku is considered carefully. This training is not offered at a fixed time, but when a student is felt to be genuinely prepared — always with the wellbeing of future students and the integrity of the lineage in mind.
-
Completion of Shoden and Okuden
Regular practice of Jikiden Reiki for a sustained period
Repeating Shoden and Okuden at least once
While the Institute requires repetition at least once, I generally encourage students to repeat more than once, and to repeat at least one course with me if they wish to take Shihankaku training with me. This allows me to support you more fully and to assess readiness with care.
Practical experience giving in-person Reiki treatments, with recorded treatment hours
Written case studies based on hands-on practice
A reflective essay outlining your motivation and intention for teaching
A clear commitment to teaching within the Jikiden Reiki tradition, without personal alteration to the curriculum
These requirements are not a test, but a way of ensuring that teaching is approached with depth, responsibility, and respect.
Shihan – Teacher Level
Shihan is the full teacher level within this tradition..
In keeping with tradition, Shihan training is taught only by the head of the Institute, Tadao Yamaguchi. This structure exists to preserve consistency of teaching, depth of understanding, and the integrity of the lineage.
Teaching with Integrity
Teacher training within this tradition is not simply about gaining a title. It involves an ongoing commitment to:
Teaching within the guidelines set by the Institute
Preserving the curriculum without personal alteration
Supporting students with care, humility, and responsibility
Continuing one’s own practice and learning
Those who feel drawn to Shinpiden are encouraged to reflect carefully on their motivation and readiness, and to approach this path with sincerity and respect.
Is Shinpiden Right for You?
You may feel drawn to teacher training if:
Reiki has become an important and meaningful part of your life
You feel a responsibility to pass on the teachings accurately
You value tradition, simplicity, and clarity
You are willing to continue learning as you teach
If you are unsure, you are very welcome to discuss this with me. There is no expectation or pressure to move into teacher training — it is a natural step for some, and not for others.
Teacher Training with Rika
Shihankaku training is offered on an individual basis, in accordance with the requirements of the Jikiden Reiki Institute and with careful consideration of each student’s readiness.
